Crochet Infant Crown

Most of the time, my creative juices start flowing after midnight. As you can see, this photo is time stamped for 2:44 am. Shout Out to #SnapChat for the filters, and a very special shout out to my daughter's Baby Alive, Jorge! He is SO Photogenic!

I originally created this crown pattern to compliment a onesie design for Black Love! The outfit consisted of a crown, multicolored sneakers, and a graphic "Product of Black Love" onesie. There was also an alternate version in which a client could order a Bow-band instead of the crown.

These items adorable outfits can be purchased through our Etsy Shop.

The pattern for this crown is simple but it is Intermediate Level. The stitches you will need to know are: Sl St (Slip Stitch), CH (Chain), SC (Single Crochet), SCBB (Single Crochet in the Back Bump), HDC (Half Double Crochet), HDCBB (Half Double Crochet In the Back Bump), DC (Double Crochet), TR (Treble Crochet), Reverse Sl St ( Reverse Slip Stitch, SK (Skip).

The crown can be all in one color or interchangeable with up to four (Main Color + 3 accents). The measurements for infant head circumference are:

  • Premie/Newborn: 12"-13"

  • 0-3 Months: 14"-15"

  • 3-6 Months: 15"-16"

  • 6-12 Months: 16"-18

Your hook size depends on your tension. I personally used US G/4.5 Yarn Story Light Hook. For bigger sizes, go up ONE hook size. As long as your beginning chain measures the correct head circumference, you should be fine. :-)

You will need:

Small Pair of Scissors

Acrylic or Cotton Sz 4 worsted weight yarn (1-4 Colors)

US G/4.5 Hook

Gauge: 7 HDC per 2"

Starting with the Main Color, CH 42

Making sure to keep the CH Strand STRAIGHT, SL ST into the First CH. (42)

Row 1: CH 1, SC in the same stitch and each of the remaining 41 stitches. (42)

Row 2: CH 1, HDC in the same stitch and each of the remaining 41 stitches. (42)

Using the first accent color (or keep the main color) SL ST into the first HDC of the row.

Row 3: CH 1, HDCBB in the same stitch and the back bump each of the remaining 41 stitches. (42) Using the second accent color (or keep the main color) SL ST into the first HDC of the row.

Row 4: CH 1, HDCBB in the same stitch and the back bump each of the remaining 41 stitches. (42) Using the third accent color (or keep the main color) SL ST into the first HDC of the row.

Row 5: CH 1, SCBB in the same stitch and the back bump each of the remaining 41 stitches. (42) Using the second accent color (or keep the main color) SL ST into the first SC of the row.

Row 6: CH 2, *SK 2 stitches, in the next stitch (DC, DC, TR, CH 3, SL ST into the back bump of the first CH, TR, DC, DC), SK 2, SL ST in the next*, Repeat *to* 6 more times {You should have (7) Peaks on your crown}, SL ST into the beginning CH of the row. Fasten Off.

Bottom Border: Turn your crown upside down and find the first chain. Using your Main Color, Insert your hook, SL ST, and CH 1. Now, Reverse SL ST all the way across for a clean finish!

For an even fancier finish, add some BLING for ROYALTY!
